The basis of my work centers on the concept of change. Changes and changing are very important. The subtlety of change and extreme change, give me a reference point in the scheme of being. To me, painting is a very personal involvment with the world of change. The emotions to express change and the relationship of change, one to another, is expressed in the images I produce. Landscape is important because it is always changing. I call my paintings "Split Landscape," not because they are "split," because they fit together in a special unity. The subtle, yet dynamic combinations of the elements of line, color, shape and texture, produce unique personal expressions of memories and other personal events in my life.
Contradictions are also an important aspect of my paintings. To "split" an image is also to say that the image may stand on its own with regard to another. With aesthetic techniques and emotional expression, these contradictions are allowed to exist in harmony. Harmony in painting is a visual dance by which the artist makes choices; choices which may be right or wrong, but right in the eyes of the artist. The feeling that one receives from doing these paintings is the motivation for continuing the pursuit of change.
This statement may only be valid in this fraction of time; ......it too may change.
